Forbidding a peaceful way is opening the doors of violence

We as Iranian Kurdistan Pen Association express our worry about Turkish Court’s stance and we believe that these ways of confronting to the activism of a party like Democratic Society is not of any benefit for Turkish state and also cannot prevent the crisis in Turkey. We also believe that each pace of making obstacles in front of the civic and democratic parties, is a pace towards war and crisis and of this window we believe that the Turkish court sentence shows a wrong stance.

Manifest of Iranian Kurdistan Pen Association for stopping pressures on Iranian Writers

So, the freedom of speech and freedom of publishing which is known as the forth column of democracies are the most important elements for progression and development of the societies. Contrarily, there are systems which are being damaged by the freedom of speech and publishing; we generally call them "totalitarian" systems, which deprive any rights to expressing ideas.

Dear Mediterranean Sea

The magical blue waves of the Mediterranean and the soft sound of their whisper mingle with the sounds of laughter and joy of the tourists occupying the stern of the large white boat with the letters Zorba emblazoned on its hull.  Mykonos is a fragment of paradise: through lips of magic blue tranquility she can tell you many a tale of Aphrodite and Hermes, but has yet to hear my sad story.

IRAN:

HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES AGAINST THE KURDISH MINORITY

Even if dying of hunger or from poverty

Still I will not serve strangers all my life long,

I have no fear of chains, ropes, rods, or the prison

Should they hack me into pieces, should they kill me

Still I will say: I am a Kurd!1

Persecution of languages, Compromising humanity

Once again I thank you for offering me this chance to talk to you in this free platform. It is an honour talking to those using their free pen to serve humanity, yet it is rather hard talking in free platforms about languages facing the threat of elimination due to persecution while those with free pen are not doing much or perhaps doing very little about it.

Lapdogs or watchdogs?

April 7, 2003 -- There is some truth in the dictum that “the first casualty of war is truth.” This claim is not, however, very enlightening. In the evolving postmodern environment, it would be more appropriate to argue that there is more than one truth. Even the claim about multiple truths is not new or radical.

Renowned Kurdish-Iranian Filmmaker Banned from Shooting in Iran by Iranian Censors

In a press statement dated 19 January, Ghobadi stated that he first learned of the ban on a cinema website on which the Cinema Department in the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance had announced ‘Under current circumstances and according to numerous reasons and based on regulations production of any film by Bahman Ghobadi is not within the professional filmmaking agenda of the General Censors Office'. Though he initially believed that there had been some sort of misunderstanding, enquiries by his office did not elicit any formal denial of the ban by officials.
